Major League Baseball (MLB) is considering allowing its players to participate in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic baseball tournament. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and players' union head Tony Clark are discussing the possibility of using major leaguers, potentially with an extended All-Star break to accommodate the Olympic schedule. The World Baseball Softball Confederation has scheduled the baseball tournament for July 15-20 at Dodger Stadium. The International Testing Agency (ITA) reported sanctions against three baseball and softball players for doping violations. Softball player Ben Kantor (Israel) received a three-year suspension after testing positive for multiple anabolic steroids during an in-competition test at the Men's Softball World Cup on July 14, 2024. Baseball players Noel Salas Buitimea (Mexico) and Rubén Darío Tejada Abrego (Panama) each received four-year suspensions. Salas Buitimea tested positive for stanozolol in an out-of-competition test on November 7, 2024, and Tejada Abrego tested positive for drostanolone in an out-of-competition test on November 8, 2024. All three were provisionally suspended December 3, 2024. Kantor's ban runs from August 23, 2024, to August 22, 2027, while the bans for Salas Buitimea and Tejada Abrego run from December 3, 2024, to December 2, 2028. All athletes have the right to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Major League Baseball (MLB) has made a significant financial investment in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) as a minority shareholder. This investment aims to support the growth of women's softball, particularly with its return to the Olympic program for Los Angeles 2028.
