Ingmar De Vos began his role as president on January 1, 2025, and will fill one seat for the remainder of the 2025-2027 term. Euroleague has expressed concerns about the NBA's plan, in partnership with FIBA, to create a rival league in Europe. Euroleague views this project as a potential threat to European basketball and fragmentation of the sport, but stated its willingness to discuss with involved parties. The NBA project proposes a league with twelve permanent franchises and four additional teams that could change yearly. NBA has reportedly approached major football clubs like PSG to create new basketball franchises, and Real Madrid has shown interest. Tony Parker supports a merger between Euroleague and the NBA. The NBA announced in March 2025 that it would explore creating a league in Europe with FIBA.

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has extended the ban on Russian and Belarusian national teams and clubs from all its sanctioned competitions until May 2025. Initially imposed on March 1, 2022, in response to events in Ukraine, the ban was prolonged indefinitely in November 2023, excluding both nations from qualifiers for the 2023 Basketball World Cup and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated Russia would continue working to reintegrate its athletes. The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games are clouded by the unresolved participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes.
