Munich is considering a bid for the 2040 or 2044 Summer Olympics, contingent on a referendum to gauge public support. Mayor Dieter Reiter emphasized the need for citizen approval before committing to costly planning. The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) favors a single-city bid, with draft proposals due by late May and a final decision expected by year's end. India, Chile, Türkiye, and Indonesia have already bid with South Africa, Hungary, South Korea, or Qatar considering it. Kirsty Coventry will succeed Thomas Bach at the IOC main office.

Russian and Ukrainian gymnasts may compete at the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha this April. This marks the first time since 2022 that gymnasts from both countries might share the competition floor. Seven Russian athletes and six Ukrainian athletes have applied to participate. The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) had banned Russian and Belarusian gymnasts following the 2022 Doha tournament but later allowed them to compete under neutral status in 2024. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, a rare incident occurred in women's gymnastics floor exercise where the bronze medalist changed twice due to judging controversies. Initially, Romania's Anna Barbosu secured third place, but an American challenge led to Jordan Chiles taking the bronze. Romania protested to CAS, arguing the U.S. challenge was filed late. CAS sided with Romania, restoring Barbosu as the bronze medalist. The incident sparked outrage, with the Romanian Prime Minister criticizing FIG and the Romanian Gymnastics Federation initially threatening to boycott the closing ceremony. The key issue was the timing of the U.S. challenge, which CAS determined was filed 1 minute and 4 seconds after the score was posted, violating FIG rules requiring challenges within 1 minute.
