Khadzhimurat Gatsalov, head coach of the Russian freestyle wrestling team and 2004 Olympic champion, has been provisionally suspended by the ITA for a potential anti-doping rule violation dating back to May 2015. The accusation is based on data from the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), indicating that a sample provided by Gatsalov on 10 May 2015 tested positive after reanalysis. The Russian Wrestling Federation (RWF) has temporarily removed Gatsalov from his position, while expressing confidence in his integrity. Mikhail Mamiashvili, head of the RWF, questioned the timing of the accusation, noting the imminent expiration of the statute of limitations. Gatsalov, who won gold at the Athens 2004 Olympics and multiple world titles, intends to defend his name.
