The IOC has approved the inclusion of compound archery as a mixed team event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, marking the first new bowstyle added to the Olympic archery program since 1972. This decision follows years of advocacy by World Archery and recognizes the sport's increasing global popularity. World Archery President Ugur Erdener expressed gratitude to the IOC and the LA28 Organising Committee. Compound archery, which has been part of the World Archery Championships since 1995, will join recurve events, bringing the total archery medal events to six at LA28. Further details on the event format, athlete numbers, and qualification schedule are expected to be announced later.
