World Sailing has launched the 2026 edition of the Women in Sport High Performance Pathway (WISH) Programme, a collaborative initiative with the International Olympic Committee and Olympic Solidarity. The program aims to increase female representation in elite coaching roles within sailing, aligning with broader gender equality targets across governance, high performance, and visibility. The WISH Programme offers leadership development, mentoring, and networking opportunities for aspiring female coaches, building on a pilot program launched in 2019. World Sailing has also set measurable targets for female representation in coaching, leadership, and technical roles through its 'Steering the Course' strategic plan.

World Sailing has initiated a groundbreaking project to measure and minimize the environmental impact of Olympic-class boats. This 12-month program, involving all six Olympic sailing classes, utilizes life-cycle assessments to understand the full environmental footprint from production to disposal. Findings will inform future rules, technical standards, and class selection, aligning with the federation’s Sustainability Agenda 2030 and the International Olympic Committee’s priorities. From 2032, all classes seeking Olympic inclusion must submit verified assessments. The project, supported by MarineShift360, aims to create fairer standards and potentially influence the broader marine industry.

The 2025 Youth Sailing World Championships are scheduled to take place in Vilamoura, Portugal, from December 12-20. Organized by World Sailing, the event will feature under-19 sailors competing in six classes across eleven events. This championship, with a history dating back to 1971, serves as a significant talent pipeline for Olympic sailing, with many past participants going on to achieve Olympic success. France currently leads the all-time Nations Trophy standings, with Italy aiming for a third consecutive title. The Vilamoura venue emphasizes sustainability, incorporating solar energy, plastic reduction, and eco-friendly equipment.

The inaugural World Sailing Inclusion Championships, hosted by "Oman Sail" at the "Barceló Mussanah Resort" in Oman, has attracted over 150 participants from 37 nations. This event, a key part of "World Sailing's" Para Inclusive Strategy 2024-2029, will feature athletes with diverse disabilities, competing in various classes. The event also includes an Inclusive Development Programme. The opening ceremony is set for 2025-12-03, aligning with the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

World Sailing has nominated Jazz Turner and Dani Pich for the 2025 World Sailing Awards. Turner, the first woman in a wheelchair to complete a solo, non-stop, unassisted circumnavigation of the British Isles, is nominated for Rolex World Sailor of the Year (Female). Pich, who is blind, is nominated alongside his initiative Yes We Sail for the Team of the Year award; his project promotes accessibility in sailing for people with visual and sensory disabilities and aims to return the sport to the Paralympic Games in Brisbane 2032.
