Each IF will set its own eligibility criteria, based on human rights and scientific evidence. This contrasts with potential stricter rules the International Olympic Committee is considering.

Chris Jenkins has resigned as President of Commonwealth Sport, with Donald Rukare appointed as interim president until elections in November 2025. Jenkins, who assumed the role in November 2023, focused on sustainability and raising the Games' profile after Australia withdrew from hosting the 2026 Games. Rukare, also the Ugandan Olympic Committee’s president, expressed readiness to lead, highlighting the progress made towards the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Seven nations, including Canada, India, and Nigeria, have expressed interest in hosting the 2030 and 2034 editions.

India has officially expressed interest in hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with the IOA submitting a bid to the CGF. A successful bid would support India's larger ambition to host the 2036 Olympic Games. CGF Chief Executive Katie Sadleir has voiced support for India's ambition, citing the nation's transformational work and potential to become a top 10 Olympic country. Ahmedabad and Bhubaneswar are being considered as potential host cities. The CGF has set a March 31 deadline for official bids.
