Kirsty Coventry from Zimbabwe has been elected as the new International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, marking the first time in the IOC's 131-year history that a woman has held the position. Coventry, a former Olympic swimmer with 7 medals, succeeds Thomas Bach. She won the election against strong contenders including Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr. and Seb Coe. Her election is seen as a sign of the IOC's commitment to globalization and diversity. It may positively influence Jeonbuk's bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympics, given her close relationship with Seung Min Ryu, the president of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee.

Seung Min RYU, President of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, met with International Olympic Committee President Thomas BACH at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne on April 8. This marks their first meeting since Ryu's election on January 14. During the meeting, they discussed cooperation between the IOC and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, as well as Jeollabuk-do's bid for the 2036 Summer Olympics. BACH, who will be succeeded by Kirsty Coventry on June 23, also discussed the transition. Kim Kwan-young, Governor of Jeollabuk-do, accompanied Ryu during the visit.

Seung Min RYU, president of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, will visit the International Olympic Committee headquarters in Lausanne for a meeting with Thomas BACH on April 8. The visit follows BACH's invitation after RYU's election on January 14. Kim Kwan-young, governor of Jeollabuk-do, and Yu In-chon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will also participate to promote Jeollabuk-do as a candidate city for the 2036 Summer Olympics.

Thomas BACH stated that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has not yet officially decided on the unified team between North and South Korea for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. He also mentioned that the IOC is positively discussing the inclusion of taekwondo as an official sport in the 2024 Olympics. Chungwon CHOUE announced that a demonstration team will visit North Korea in September.
